P.J.Kavanagh

P.J. Kavanagh (1931) Nació de padres irlandeses pero se crió en Inglaterra. Hijo del guionista radial Ted Kavanagh (aturo de ITMA ). Describe su vida juvenil en sus memorias The Perfect Stranger (1966), y sus posteriores intentos de hallar a sus antepasados irlandeses en Australia en su obra Finding Connections (1990). Kavanagh ha publicado poesía desde 1959. Fue columnista del The Spectator (1983-96) y del Times Literary Supplement (1996-2002). También trabajó para el Consejo Británico como actor y locutor. Dirigió tres festivales de literatura Cheltenham durante los años 70 y publicó seis 6 novelas, ediciones de G.K. Chesterton y Ivor Gurney, además de varias antologías, incluyendo Book of Consolations (1992) y Voices in Ireland (1994). Su antología poética se publicó en 1992 y en 1999 Carcanet hizo una nueva tirada. En 2004 Carcanet editó una serie de nuevos poemas bajo el título Something About .

 

P.J.Kavanagh (1931) Of Irish descent and English upbringing, son of the radio scriptwriter Ted Kavanagh (author of ITMA ). He described his earlier life (wartime BBC, monastery school, the Korean War, Oxford , marriage, Indonesia ) in his autobiographical memoir The Perfect Stranger (1966); and his later attempts to trace Irish ancestors in Australasia in Finding Connections (1990). Published poems since 1959. Columnist in The Spectator (1983-96) and The Times Literary Supplement (1996-2002). Worked for the British Council and as an actor and broadcaster. He directed three Cheltenham Literature Festivals during the 1970s. He has published 6 novels, editions of G.K.Chesterton and Ivor Gurney, and several anthologies, including A Book of Consolations (1992) and Voices in Ireland (1994). His Collected Poems came out in 1992 (Carcanet, reprint 1999). Something About (new poems) published 2004 (Carcanet).
